Tokyo, Japan (Spring 2024) - Day 7

While in Tokyo Station, we considered getting some breakfast tsukemen

ramen at Rokurinsha since the line wasn’t that long, but we had a big lunch coming so opted against it.

Had already been here on previous trips so it was not a must stop on this trip.

Hoshino Coffee (Tokyo Station)

We opted for a lighter breakfast of snack toasts at a fancy coffee shop in Tokyo Station.

We had some time to kill before the lunch reservation so we enjoyed walking around the shops in Ginza on a sunny day.

Mon Cher Ton Ton (Roppongi)

Finally - some steak! This restaurant also has a sister restaurant in Ginza (named Seryna) but we went to this place in Roppongi on a recommendation. The steak is pretty excellent here.

This place offers a teppanyaki style Wagyu steak. The grill bar area is pretty stunning with its scallop shaped umbrella over the seating area.

Our Chef

His English was limited and he was always asking for our preferences or any dietary restrictions.

He smiled after I Google translated that I will accept all of his recommendations ahead of time as that made life a lot easier for him.

Meal Courses

Dessert

For dessert - you get seated in another area for coffee and you choice of sweets

Roppongi

They say that this is a party neighborhood with lots of clubs and such. I’ve never been here at night so I really can’t comment. I’m more of a day drinker on vacation.

Hobgoblin (Roppongi)

I’m pretty sure that I had been to this bar before in my previous travels here. We were in search of a day drinking stop after our steak lunch. Pretty quiet during the day but I’m sure the English soccer fans settle in here at night.

Wells Bombardier

I was excited to see that they had this on draft since is a beer that I like that you really can’t find in the US.

This pint, however, wasn’t great. I wonder if the keg had been sitting too long.

Bar Rudies (Shibuya)

The next late afternoon stop was another cigar bar. This one was another narrow bar with about 8 seats and the lone attentive bartender. The cigars are in a wall cabinet behind the bar seats and you can get mixed drinks along with a good whiskey selection. You also get a teacup of sherbert as part of the sitting fee.

The Bellwood (Shibuya)

After the cigar, we stayed in Shibuya and found another cocktail bar. This one was mostly patronized by tourists and everyone spoke English. The bartenders and waitstaff seemed like they were all European. You get a creative drink menu here separated into categories to choose from.

Beniton Kanda (紅とん 神田東口店)

In search for some late night skewers we found this place right next to Kanda Station. This was more of the proper izakaya atmosphere we were looking for when we previously happened upon the omakase place down the alley. Great snacks and beer at affordable prices. Casual no fuss atmosphere with locals noshing with friends after work before going home.

Osakenobijutsukan Kandaten Bar Liquor Museum

(お酒の美術館 神田店 )

This is one of those places that I can’t believe I didn’t find until the last night in Tokyo. Located a mere block away from our hotel, this was a great whiskey bar with a fun atmosphere and a super friendly staff.

They also had one of those hard to find American whiskeys - in this case it was the Austin Nichols Wild Turkey made in the 90’s. I think it cost some exorbitant amount - like $6 or something.
