Las Vegas (Summer 2024)
Hemenway Park, Boulder City
Bighorn Sheep!
I’ve always wanted to see bighorn sheep in the wild. I have scanned mountains with binoculars and have searched for them in many a national park with no success.
I guess I should have just come to Vegas where they apparently casually hang out in this park and you can observe them with no fuss. This was actually rutting season and some of the males were doing the full on head ramming thing with their horns which you can hear from a distance. They just basically take over this park since there is shade and grass year round.
This is probably one of the best free activities you can do in Vegas.
Collins (Fountainbleu)
It’s always nice to check out the new fancy bars here in Las Vegas. This one is in the Fountainbleu and is a comfy classy place to enjoy an overpriced cocktail.
The Sand Dollar Lounge
A very locals place recommended by a friend who lives in Vegas. This place actually sits not too far off the strip.
No tourists here, just your working class joint with a pool table, video poker, live music, and solid drinks. Once the music starts it’s a bit hard to hold a conversation.
I guess there is another Sand Dollar bar in downtown. I’m not sure if they are the same but this one is just on the other side of US 15 from the Strip.
Eight Cigar Lounge (Resorts World)
It seemed like this was the one cigar lounge on the Strip that I had not gone to. I always assumed that they had a cutting fee because it gave off that vibe but when I stopped in during the day one time they told me that there was none and I was free to bring my own smokes. During the day it was quiet but got very busy at night. We were lucky to be able to find some bar seats.
This is one of those video bars where they have ongoing movie clips on the TVs (I’m assuming only because there were no worthwhile sporting events going on). This place is decently spacious as well.
Bound (Cromwell)
Located in the back end of the Cromwell, this fancy bar actually makes very solid cocktails although it did take a while to get the drinks. I guess some craft cocktails are more labor intensive. We did also come at a time when they only had one bartender behind the bar. Still - the drinks were very good.
Blvd Bar BQ & Wings
Decided to try this new wing place since it was conveniently on the walk home from Resorts World cigar bar. Their wings are a smoked version with lots of sauce choices.
