France (Winter 2023) - Lyon (Day 5)

One objective when planning these vacations is to try and stay in places one more day than is necessary so that you can have a free day to do whatever and just wander around the city if you want. The city was much more peaceful and calm now that the festival was over and people left town.

It did rain the most this day than on any other day of the trip. It rained so much that the river flooded a bit and some of the bar boat barges had to move for safety.

Uskudar

I asked around for the best kefta kebab in Lyon and this was the place that got recommended. Great little shop. This version they put fries inside.

Strolling around Lyon on the last day

Le Café de la Cathédrale

While walking around old town, the showers started again so we ducked into this cafe. Coffee, pastis, and snacks were a great way to kill some time while waiting out the weather. This cafe is located right next to the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Cathedral in the old town.

L’Evergreen

Back on the east side of town, the rain continued throughout the day so needed another place to dry off. Searched for a place that was open for drinks in the afternoon and found this place. There are a lot of places in Lyon that are closed for a break between lunch and dinner and a lot of bars don’t open until late.

This place as per the name had a tree and plant theme throughout the bar/restaurant. Plenty of outside seating as well but no one out there since it was cold and rainy.

L’Entrecote

I believe this place is a chain and has several locations in France. This was an awesome place for steaks. They only do one thing so there is no real menu. By keeping things simple, they are also very affordable. The place is extremely popular and always busy with locals and tourists.

You basically get a rib steak cooked how you want. I got medium rare but think I would get medium next time. It is drenched in this green butter sauce and you get unlimited fries. You also get a walnut salad. They have a few wines you can order but the house wine is fine and priced right.

About the only real menu is the dessert menu if you choose to get any. This is a meat lovers must stop.

Monkey Club

Looking for after dinner cocktails, the Monkey Club was a great find. It is located in the central city area a bit north along the Rhone River. High quality cocktails with plush furniture that feels like you are sitting in a library in a ritzy mansion. Lots of couples having drinks here that night.

(I also tried green Chartreuse for the first time. Apparently there is a worldwide shortage because the monks who make it decided not to work that hard.)

Black Forest Society

We decided to hop in here for the last drink of the night. Pretty good cocktail menu with a German theme inside.
