Whiskey Dick’s Saloon

Whiskey Dick’s is probably the most prominent dive bar in South Lake because it sits right on 50. I’m not sure, but I believe that it is named after the legendary Captain Dick who loved his bourbon, died on the lake, and for whom one of the peaks is named. Maybe the bar’s name is after the medical condition men get after too much alcohol, but I like the historical one better.

This is a classic dive with both a DJ booth and a stage for live music. They’ve got two pool tables that look pretty serious when folks come in with their own sticks. They even have electronic shuffleboard - I didn’t know that electronic ones existed. They have a couple of pool tables and the tables are free on Mondays.

It’s a pretty spacious bar and some seating outside next to 50. Locals seem to like to hit this place and they’ve got a pretty good happy hour. It’s also a staging area for when the popular sushi place across the parking lot is too busy and people need a place to kill time while on the wait list.

They actually have some pretty respectable bottles for a dive bar but maybe if you have “whiskey” in your name you are obligated to have a couple of decent bottles. Dogs are welcome so needless to say it is my kind of place.
