McTeague’s Saloon

Sitting at the lower end of Polk, McTeague’s is a neighborhood bar that checks the day drinking box. It opens before noon during the week and I love how their website lists “varies” for weekend opening times - I assume it’s early. Being open early helps cater to the soccer watching crowd as they can catch their Euro games on TV here.

I like having the early bar option as there are times that I need a place to watch east coast college football early while I’m in SF or fulfill my “bar without food that opens early” needs because I like to get my Hot Sauce and Panko take out wings and need a place to munch. This place isn’t too far a walk from there.

One thing that stands out to me about the bar is that it is huge for San Francisco. It’s cavernous compared to the other bars in the area. That helps with the sports watching as they have TVs everywhere and it is easy to find a spot to watch since the place is so big.

I also like how the place is decorated with a mish mash of old and odd items that could only have happened organically over time. It lends it a certain character that a newer bar can’t replicate.
