Himmel Haus

So, the food here is surprisingly good. I often don’t expect too much from German restaurants but they do a great job here. This bar is located at the bottom of the Heavenly Gunbarrel run on the California side. The building used to be Christiana’s Inn which was also German themed.

Of course, it is a great apres-ski spot since you can just walk from Heavenly but it is also great during the summer as they have a nice picnic area in the front. It’s actually pretty big on the inside with two dining areas. You are pretty close to the mountain up here on the hill so it’s also not crazy to see a bear or two roaming here around dusk.

They do a good job in bringing the authentic German feel with the excellent beer selections (as you expect) but also the food and atmosphere. I also like that instead of using a bell to signal that the food is ready in the kitchen they have a cuckoo clock sound. No liquor here though - just beer and wine.

Apparently one of the owners is an artist and he does these crazy good chalk drawings in the entryway.
