Genoa Bar and Saloon

This place is not in South Lake but located over the hill in the small town of Genoa, NV. People here always correct you to put the accent on the “O” in Genoa.

It is listed here however because of two things:

1 - Oldest bar in Nevada (1853)

2 - Dog friendly!

There is no place in South Lake that has that super old feel but this place seems to be the undisputed oldest drinking establishment in Nevada so that works for me.

This place definitely feels old. It has the wear and the grime that cannot be replicated in a new place. Apparently is it also still heated by a wood stove.

They have these pamphlets on the bar that provide the full history of the place along with the celebrities that have visited and explain the original mirror that was shipped from Scotland which contains diamond dust in the glass.

I’ve been told that it is a stop for motorcycle riders so apparently there can be times when the place is inundated with bikers stopping for a break.

Also - for the oldest bar in Nevada, it has the nicest pool cues I’ve ever seen in a bar.
