Located on the north end of the Mission, Elixir is a small bar with a great whiskey selection - perhaps the best selection in the city? I read somewhere that this is the second oldest bar in San Francisco and it certainly has the feel even though it’s been renovated. Old time fixtures and woodwork permeate the place. I just love older bars like this.

They have a good cocktail menu but I come here for the whiskey. The whiskey list is extensive. The list is a bit pricier and smaller than a few years ago but still pretty good and you can still find a few affordable gems in the list. They have the rarer ones up on the shelf by the ceiling and they need to pull the ladder out when someone orders one. They also source barrels from the distillers and get their own bottling which results in some great bottles to try.

Dogs can hang out which gets a double thumbs up from me and they now have an outdoors area which accommodates more seating.
