Columbus Cafe
The Columbus Cafe is one of the anchors of the North Beach bar scene. It’s been around forever and it has a tin ceiling which I think is my new indicator of whether I will like a bar or not. Tin ceiling? - must be good.
A bartender there once told me that they sell (or at least use to) the most Fernet in the country which is like the most SF thing ever.
The place has the classic neighborhood bar feel with the pool table, old school red vinyl bench seating, and photo booth. I like the vibe here with the Misfits clock decor, black walls, and the welcoming purple light at the door. They also open in the early afternoon to meet your day drinking needs as a neighborhood bar should.
Since COVID they’ve had a nice outdoor area. I’m not sure if it is dog friendly in the sense that the owner’s dog (who is awesomely friendly) hangs out there but I’m not sure if it’s cool if you bring your pup.
