Taipei, Taiwan (Spring 2024) - Day 1

Day 1 was really like “Night 1” as we landed at 6:45 PM.

One nice thing about Taipei is that once you land in Taoyuan Airport, you can get into the city center at the central bus and train station without ever going outside. There is also a healthy underground tunnel system with pathways and malls that will get you to some surrounding blocks as well without subjecting yourself to rain or heat or humidity.

We were able to hit a couple of spots for some food and drink before turning in for the night.

Party Team Bistro

We decided to hit this place. It is within walking distance of Taipei Main neighborhood where we were staying and we had been to before so we knew it was good. It is a Japanese Izakaya and like many things in Taipei, when they co-opt from a different culture, they often do it as good or better.

Great place for casual beers and yakitoris. It also seems like they have taken over the space next door since I had been here last.

(Note: This place is cash only)

Book ing Bar

I guess there are two of these bars in Taipei. The one we went to is in the Zhongshan district.

When I looked for a nearby bar that was open after getting the yakitoris, I didn’t realize this place was a speakeasy. A couple that came behind us had to tell us how to get in. The door is fake. You open a little drawer where you pull on the lit up book and then the brick wall itself opens as the real door. Well executed drinks in an upscale environment.
