Spain (Spring 2023) - Malaga (Day 6)

It was nice to stay for so long because we had a free day to just wander with no itinerary and just do whatever we wanted.

Casa Aranda

We didn’t bother waiting in line in Madrid for the churros and hot chocolate at San Gines but I’m sure this place was just as good, very traditional, and much easier.

Situated close by to where we were staying, this place is super convenient and rather busy. The tables inside and outside fill up very fast. The prices at the tables are a little more than at the stand up bar area.

We had a breakfast of coffee, orange juice, a salami sandwich, and of course - hot chocolate and churros.

Back to the Atarazanas market

We stopped by the nearby market after breakfast and got another orange fresh orange juice and another sandwich because you can never have too many of those. We also stopped by a spice stall and got some packets for ourselves and as gifts. Each bag of spice was 1 Euro.

El Pimpi

El Pimpi may be the most popular restaurant in Malaga. Centrally located right in the square facing the Alcazaba and not far from the cathedral, the place is eternally busy - especially the outside patio.

We actually went here twice this day. The first time the “El Tunel” area which is a bar with a tapas menu wasn’t open yet so we perched in the restaurant bar for some drinks.

The tight space is lined with photos of famous Spanish celebrities who have gone there. It seems like their favorite is native son Antonio Banderas based on his prominence in the photos. It seems the thing to do is for them to sign a barrel of Malaga wine and take a photo.

If you dine here, they give you a glass of Malaga sweet wine or another apertif when you are done. Since this bar area was considered part of the restuarant area, after we had our drinks, they basically give you another drink with your bill.

El Tunel de el Pimpi

We went back later in the afternoon when the El Tunel section was open. They have a large tapas menu on the wall and we enjoyed some afternoon wine and snacks on our return trip there.

Walk back to the beach

After the first El Pimpi stop earlier, we walked back to the beach but stopped at Antiqua Casa de Guardia because you can never have enough of that place. I would probably go there 3x a week if I lived there.

Chiringuito Sicsu

At the beach we were finally able to get some espetos before we left town. We were able to sneak in right before they were about to close the grill so we were able to snag some of the last sardines of the day. Enjoyed some roasted sardines and a beer right on Malagueta beach on our last day in Malaga.

La Terraza

Walking back into town again, we stopped at this neat little terrace bar. This place is all about the location. It provides outstanding views of the Alcazaba and of the city. We were lucky to grab an open table to enjoy some afternoon drinks on a gorgeous day as it can get busy especially on a nice day.

Los Gatos

Had dinner here for the last night in Malaga. We had walked by it a few times and it seemed like a fun atmosphere. Tried their versions salmorejo and flamenquines dishes.
