Spain (Spring 2023) - Madrid - Day 5 (return leg)

On the return to Madrid, it was now late March and the weather had warmed up considerably from when we were here at the beginning of March. The days were beautiful and warm making it a great day to stroll around town.

Plaza de Espana & Cervantes Monument

We walked west to Plaza de Espana and saw the Cervantes monument. I guess no one knows what he actually looked like so the I guess the likenesses are all artist interpretation of what you think a medieval Spanish writer would look like. There is a bronze of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza below where Cervantes sits.

Parque de El Retiro

On this lovely day we actually went in the park instead of just walking by. The place is very nice and situated just east of the Prado. The park is pretty large and there are many different entrances. You can see a lot of people enjoying themselves in the nice weather and a lot of locals jogging the paths.

Went back to many of the favorite places to eat and drink on this last day in Madrid

Cervecería Alemana (again)

Casa Alberto (again)

We would leave to go back to the US the next morning.

But couldn’t leave without stopping at Rodilla one more time for their sandwiches

Madrid airport was very modern looking

The metal grated cylinders everywhere are actually AC vents

It was nice to have been gone so long that I was looking forward to going back to the States. It was even nicer that we had our luggage!
