Paris - (Fall 2024) - Day 1

I had not been back to Paris in over a decade and I’d forgotten how great a city it is. I learned recently about how the city was torn down and rebuilt resulting in the uniform architecture with the broad avenues and green spaces.

I’d also recently learned that the city keeps the “Paris” character by owning a lot of the real estate and allocating storefronts to small businesses and renting low rent apartments via lottery to keep workers in the city. It makes sense since every American town devolves into the same strip mall stores.

We got in late the first night. We stayed in the 15th Arrondissement in the Montparnasse.

Berliner

It was late in the evening and there were not many dining options by the hotel so we hit this place. This is a chain and you can find several around town. You really can’t go wrong with a kebab and kebabs are quickly becoming my favorite late night food choice when traveling in Europe.

Au Metro Cafe

This restaurant bar was just down the street from the hotel so it became a regular night cap spot for us. The bartender came to expect us at night for an evening drink. A very local joint with the same regulars every day and rugby on the tv constantly.
