Other Colorado Places - Summer 2022

Here are just some other places that we hit when we were staying in Lafayette.  I lumped the remaining places into this post.

Most of the places are in Louisville (around here they actually pronounce the “s” – unlike the one in Kentucky that we visited later in the summer).

pôr Wine House (Louisville)

(I had to learn how to make the hat over the “O” in Word)

This wine bar in Louisville actually is what I consider to be the best whiskey bar in the greater Denver area.

To be a great whiskey bar, it has to have the following:

1)     Great whiskey selection (duh)
What I mean is that they need to have a lot of bottles but also some that are not easy to find at your usual bars.

2)     Decent prices
There are some bars that have every whiskey under the sun but will charge an arm and a leg for it so us normal people wouldn’t buy them.  What good is having great whiskey if I can’t afford it?  (I’m looking at you Stateline Brewery in Tahoe)

3)     Whiskey list (with prices and updated)
So, not only do they have a multi-sheet comprehensive whiskey list that they provide to you, but they actually keep it updated if things run out.  This is important for my whiskey enjoyment.
Some examples:
I went to another place in Denver that had a lot of whiskeys and when I asked for the list the bartender pointed at his head and said it’s in there.  Ok – like I’m going to spend 20 minutes asking for what you may or may not have and ask for prices for every one?
Another (classy and expensive place) place in Denver had whiskeys mispriced and it was 1/3 more on the bill when it came because they hadn’t updated the menu.  Luckily, they honored the menu pricing when I brought up the issue, but dude – WTF?

This place had outdoor seating as well so the dog could come hang outside and they also have a food menu.

Crystal Springs Brewing Company (Louisville) - dog friendly

This is the one place we found in Louisville that was completely dog friendly.  They have substantial outdoor seating but your pup can just stroll inside.  They even have a container of dog biscuits that you can grab from.

Excellent beers on tap and a good range of flavors as well.  They have the light pilseners as well as the heavy stuff to suit your mood.  The beers are well made as they don’t taste like microbrews.

Inside it’s basically like going in a house except that they have a bar where the living room would be with football on TV.

Lulu’s BBQ (Louisville)

BBQ joint located right on the main drag in Louisville that offers up great food, great beer, and also a decent whiskey selection.

We had snacks here a few times and they had a nice patio where we would bring the dog.  Multiple TV’s all around so you can catch the game while enjoying the sunshine and beer.

We didn’t actually get the BBQ when we visited because we always wound up there in between lunch and dinner so it was just snacks.  Pictured above are their sausage plate, fried pickles, and nachos.  I hear the BBQ is very solid though.

Golden, CO

We took a trip out to Golden for a visit.  It was a nice drive in the country to get there for something to do.  It has a nice tourist drag but we decided not to eat in town and just get some gelato.  The place was actually fairly busy even on a weekday and the restaurants were packed.

Seems like a lot of people go there to go tubing down the river and the tubing trip ends just before the Coors Brewery.

The brewery is huge (and growing apparently) and you can smell the operations once you get to town.

300 Suns Brewing (Longmont)

We spent some time walking around in Longmont which is a great town located pretty much right in the middle between Denver and Fort Collins.

It has a long downtown stretch with shops and restaurants.  This brewery we went to is actually on the far south of town by the train station.  The first brewery we tried to go to was on the north side of town but they were doing some really loud roadwork which was scaring our dog on the patio.

300 Suns had a nice quiet patio and good beers.  We tried their Colorado Poutine which is poutine with green chili.
