Michigan - Summer 2022 (Part 1)

After leaving Chicago, had a quick stop in Ann Arbor while driving across the state.

Living in California, it’s been a while since I’ve seen a summer rain

Ronin hanging out on a quiet Diag that is usually buzzing with students as the fall classes had not yet started

I can’t believe this arcade still exists in this high rent space in an era where all the kids game at home

Espresso Royale was the best coffee in town but is now gone thanks to COVID, luckily this place still sells the same beans that they used

Michigan Stadium

Ronin hanging out on hallowed ground

Stopped here so Ronin could visit one of the greatest places on earth. In the old days, and I mean pre-9/11 old, they used to leave the stadium open to the public and you could go hang out inside and take pictures and such. Now it’s understandably closed when there is no event going on. Terrorists are buzzkills.

Zingerman’s Delicatessen

We decided to go to Zingerman’s since we have not been in town in a very long time. It is probably the most famous food spot in town. It was before school started so there was no wait and it was a nice day. It is quite an enterprise now and they have expanded to many other businesses beyond the original deli.

It is also quite expensive these days. That is a $22 sandwich shown above - like it’s good, but dude, $22? (at least you get a pickle with it). Part of that cost is the social consciousness of treating their workers well and being responsible with sourcing but I guess it still works because it gets the business and is reliably busy.

Ashley’s

If you are going to drink in Ann Arbor, drink here. Personally I look for some nostalgia in places like this and Ashley’s does not disappoint as it looks the same as it always has. Located right in the middle of the town across from the Diag, they have a great beer selection and a ton of whiskeys. Also a solid food offering here.
