Ferndale, MI (Summer 2023)

Back in Ferndale again - I think we have enough southeast Michigan content now to merit a spot in the “Places” tab.

Imperial

Tacos in Michigan you say? Why - yes! and it was actually very good. Besides the regular offerings of pastor and such, they also have some specialty tacos that are quite tasty. Great modern atmosphere as well with cocktails and decent whiskeys.

The Imperial is representative of Ferndale’s ongoing renewal as trendy places like this pop up next to the classic established dive bars.

J’s Penalty Box

So dill pickle pizza is a thing here. I personally did not try it but this is what the people next to me were eating. Seems like putting hot pepper on it and dipping in the ranch dressing is a must for this pizza. It seems popular at this Red Wing themed bar on Woodward.

Great sports themed bar with a lot of TV’s and an open air front that makes it a great hangout on a nice day.

Ferndale Project

This place is a bit off the main 9 Mile/Woodward corridor where most of the other bars and eateries are located.

I think every hipster town is obligated to have one of these types of places.

It doubles as a coffee shop in the morning but it’s a functional brewery with a lot of beers on tap.

The food is solid as well. Pictured above is their burger and the fries are seasoned with their own malt vinegar and dill spice.
