British Virgin Islands (Days 9 & 10)
After enjoying Cooper Island a bit more in the morning, we headed back to the Moorings base on Tortola in the afternoon on Saturday. We had a very early flight on Sunday and also had to get back to the base before 5 PM so that we could get COVID tested for the flight. Still had to test to enter in late May - paid $100 per person for the test (ouch).
I took my first land shower in a week when we got back to the Moorings. I noticed that my hair felt a little crunchy as I'd mostly just swam in salt water followed by a fresh water rinse for about a week. Shampooing felt like civilization.
We had a dock at the end of the marina with a good view of the graveyard section of the harbor with all the sunken boats (or I guess “harbour” since we are on British land?).
We had our last dinner at the restaurant in the marina. It was a buffet style dinner where you order your choice of meat and pick up the food beside the pool.
Got to the airport so early the next day we had to wait a while for the counter to open. Not much in terms of facilities there so grabbed a coffee and waited for our small prop plane to return us to the US through Puerto Rico.
Customs was a breeze. I had not travelled internationally for a while due to COVID. I went to the Global Entry kiosk in San Juan and did not have to enter my passport or my fingerprints. Instead it was all just facial recognition. This is either super convenient or super scary depending on your point of view.
