British Virgin Islands (Day 6)
Leaving Diamond Cay in the morning, you can see the cut between the islands that has a snorkeling spot on the north side. There is also a little picturesque deserted island called Sandy Spit that you can access by dinghy.
Motored to Scrub Island which was the next destination and overnight anchorage. It is dead into the wind to get there so would have taken forever by sail. At Scrub Island, you overlook the airport on Tortola and you will see the fights take off in the distance. There is also a good snorkeling spot next to Great Camanoe Island.
The guide book said that there was a bar/restaurant on the small island of Marina Cay as well as being able to get provisions there. Upon arrival, we could see that it was wiped out from the hurricane and there was no access to the island.
Scrub Island, however, was very much functioning with a high end resort and a charter base. We ran out of beer around this time and had to reload at the store. You could also get rid of your trash for free at their dumpster which was also convenient.
You could also head over a short distance on the other side of the island where they have a wonderful little beach bar area called the One Shoe Beach Bar and Grill. The resort has a shuttle and supply carts running back and forth from the marina on a regular basis and you can hop on those vehicles if the walk seems too far. We had some drinks at the beach and then returned to the boat to grill some chicken for dinner.
