British Virgin Islands (Day 1)

There aren’t a ton of choices in terms of getting to the BVI’s so if you are flying - it usually means going through San Juan, Puerto Rico. Flew in on American but had to transfer to InterCaribbean Airlines in PR. They only have one small stand at the end of the counter and it’s only manned when they have flights. So that meant sitting around with our luggage for about 3+ hours waiting to check in.

Another note - things are pretty pricey in San Juan Airport. $26 for those small (less than 12 oz) beers! “San Juan Airport” in Spanish must mean “Vegas Nightclub.”

This small plane should be safe right? Like it’s got 2 engines so should be good to go right? I will admit I actually paid attention during the safety briefing.

Still had to mask on flights into the island at that time and everyone was pretty compliant.

In true Eternal Weekends spirit, I smiled a bit when I filled out “none” for occupation on the immigration form.

To get into town, it cost $50 to COVID test at the airport, a $10 “Environmental Fee” and then a $32 taxi ride to get to Road Town.

Once you get to the islands it seems like chickens are everywhere. I would figure they would get eaten but they just seem to roam free.

We stayed in a nice hotel overlooking the harbor in Road Town. The sailboat that we were going to charter is probably in the picture somewhere on the far side of the harbor.

Went to the Pusser’s restaurant in town for dinner. I should have taken a photo of the wings as they were pretty good. It was a Friday night and the place was packed with locals (all eating the wings). Ended the night at the Aroma Cigar Bar which had a nice view of the harbor and a relaxing atmosphere which was a good way to wind down after a long day of travel. The people working there were also super nice.
